2020 Pups

Meet the Litter Mates!

While notes will be added as observed, keep in mind that these traits are just beginning to emerge and patterns will become more established as pups get closer to the 6 week mark. It is still too early to see lifelong traits reliably. These early notes will help keep the pups distinguished as you narrow in on favorite choices during your visits with the litter.

The vet office was IN LOVE with this whole litter. They wanted permission to put pics up on their site and they all wanted selfies for IG. Super cute dance party on the way to the car after.

General Litter Notes

WEEK 4: This batch is very quick to learn new things. We started crate training as solid foods were introduced. Despite the chilly outdoor air causing them to shiver a bit, they are learning very quickly how to eliminate outdoors and then come inside to eat. This should make for very smooth transitions into each home as housebreaking will already be 3-4 weeks established and you will only need to switch up the doors and target area to have a fully housebroken pup. I am working hard to do my vital part, which is to catch them right as they wake up from napping to get them outdoors before they can mess up the bedding so we can continue to reinforce good habits.

I'm also working to help them learn to come when called and a high pitched "Puppies!" brings them running indoors after only 3 days of repetition. I'm thrilled to know this litter is so trainable as it bespeaks many wonderful years in each of your homes.

WEEK 5: We are getting more regular with outdoor trips to eliminate. All pups learned how to climb the yard stairs and they know to 'come' when they hear clapping. New owners can add a name to the clapping to teach them their name and they should already be trained to come by the time they go to homes.

Week 6: First bath AND a first trip to the vet. Everyone had a good 6 Week Physical with no notes out of the ordinary on heart, kidneys. muscles, hips, eyes, ears, teeth, or testicles. YAHOO!!!

WEEK 7: We made it through till the 8-week pick-up dates started happening without potty messes indoors. (At 8 trips per X 10 pups = 80 litter eliminations 80 x 28 days = 2, 240 times we hit the right spot-- that feels like a sincere accomplishment!)

The overall energy level is picking up so that the rumpus of tackle, roll, slide, tumble, pounce, leap, catch and capture are all in a day's work. As the general chaos level of all ten rises, I am seeing the beauty of them dispersing to separate homes soon.

"Cheers, Pups. You had a good start here and the best is yet to come. "

M- Pink 'Rusty'

Rusty will be the playmate for a doodle pup and the two kids needed to fill the pool with antics and the living room with good company on a play packed property in Santa Rosa.

Agreeable. Mello. Submissive. Cuddlebug. Back half of the pack when exploring. Strolls more than he bounds. Sometimes plays on his own and seems happy to pounce on his shadow. Likes to learn and try new things. Gets along with any combination of pups. He comes up and sits quietly at my feet waiting for attention. Settles down easily for bed and rest times. He feels like an old soul.

M- Red "Dyson"

Will be raised with Robert's house as a starter dog for their family. Cheers, Dyson Family!

Agreeable. Alert. Playful. Expressive facial expressions. Patient. Smart. Looks to be a loyal companion as he studies people to figure out what they want and then do it. Has a thin whisp of a white marking on his chest like Maverick and Skye.

M- Orange "Scotch"

Will be the first 'kid' of the house at Brian's and soon to be the pride of the firehouse where he works.

Adventurous. Personable. Always first to do something new. Independant. Confident. Comical. Loves to be held and see what people are up to. Thick body build. He appears to have the same puppy physique and personality of Maverik. Will have a gorgeous wavy chest mane when his coat comes in. He already is showing some swirl patterns. Even tempered enough for therapy, field, or other working position.

M- Yellow "Murphy"

Is going to a Retriever loving home with a POOL! He also has an older, wiser Madison to help waiting to help him learn the ropes.

Rowdy -- loves to start the playtime. Tail wagging always. Comically indignant when provoked. Thoughtful. Never misses a meal. Sleeps with his front legs wrapped around to 'hug' another pup. Will have a gorgeous wavy chest when his coat comes in.

Has the build to be the largest of the fully grown dogs in this litter.

F- Green "Callie"

Will be going home with Master Charlie

Fun. Silly. Bright. Easy going. Cuddly. Solid sleeper. Loves to play. Pounces to get the party started.

As she gets older and the litter gets smaller with other pups already going home, she has become more and more assertive. This young lady knows what she wants and marches right up to get it. She exudes self confidence. She is also very quick to learn a trick or her way around a new space.

She and Willow had the darkest coats in the litter and she will turn out more of a mahogany deep red.

F-Teal "Winnie"

Will be going home to join 5-year-old Teddie as full-time special needs support dog and be trained to assist with hearing, cognitive, and ambulatory deficits.

Alert. Cuddles well. Sweet. Seeks ongoing attention and affirmation from humans. Not very vocal. Back of the pack when exploring. Her acute sensitivity and awareness make her a promising match to form strong bonds and be a helpful 'shadow' dog.

F- Blue "Ariel"

Going to Tiffany and her family to join a happy Husky. Ariel will be used in a future breeding program.

Middle of the pack when exploring. Easy going. Curious. Wants to please. Learns patterns and solves problems quickly. Content to be on her own. Submissive. Pairs well with any combination of other pups.

F- Purple "Willow"

Going to Matt and Victoria with sire, Maverick

A starter pup for their new home as they return from their honeymoon. Willow will be welcome company when her pilot is working transcontinental flights. She will be used as a Special Needs Classroom therapy dog. Cheers Willow Family!

Snuggly. Sweet. Sincere. Back of the pack when exploring. Studiously watches to see how to do things. Spunky attitude. Communicates well with humans. Sits quietly and waits her turn. Prefers to be on a lap whenever possible. Darkest coloring of the litter.

F- Grey "Piper"

Is going to remain in our Guardianship program and will be used as a breeding dog for future litters here at Rowan Red Barn Retrievers.

At the front half of the pack when exploring. Works to get attention. A strong advocate for her needs. Comes straight up to people to introduce herself. "Checks-in" with her people. Incredibly intelligent. Will also be trained to work on set for film projects.

F- Black "Annie"

Will be the mascot for Anivive pet pharmaceuticals company and help the owner hold down the main office moral and productivity.

Makes her way into every photo opportunity. Quick to learn. Athletic. Readily introduces herself to people. Confident. Friendly. Playful. Even tempered. Will be most happy when exploring in the wide outdoors retrieving and hiking or in water play. She will have a strong, athletic, flagless drive to please. Best suited for a home where she will have a job.
